A membership answers “is my access or benefit currently valid?”. A loyalty card answers “what have I earned and what can I redeem?”. Separating those questions makes the service easier for both customers and staff.
Choose the model by the function of the benefit, not the name of the card.
Identity and validity: the role of membership
An academy, club or recurring service may need to identify someone and confirm that access is active. The key information is status, validity and, where applicable, an authorized category or location. A balance is unnecessary for this purpose.
A digital credential can support the operation without implying payment collection is automated. If activation depends on a payment in another system, define who confirms it and how status changes. An active credential is not an accounting verification of a payment.
Earning and redemption: the role of loyalty
A points or stamp card accompanies purchases and visits toward a reward. It needs an earning rule and a redemption operation. The balance should stay consistent with its movement history, including adjustments and reversals.
One person can belong to a club and participate in a purchase program, but that does not require combining the membership credential and balance on one screen. Explain what each card does and let staff identify the type before showing controls.
Design a benefit staff can verify
For membership, specify the access or privilege and what happens when it expires or is suspended. For loyalty, specify eligible movements and when units are consumed. Visual design should reinforce that distinction rather than hide it.
A QR identifies the pass and helps authorized staff look up or validate its state. Customers should not be able to change their own validity or balance. Test active, suspended and expired credentials before issuing them broadly.
Confirm the scope before promising it
In Trivu, available card types depend on the subscribed plan. Businesses configure accessible programs and can create their corresponding posters. A membership invitation should explain its benefits; an event invitation should explain its conditions and date.
A web card and a Wallet installation are different things. Real Apple and Google Wallet passes require enabled integrations. Present the web card as a usable option and distinguish demonstrations from real installations. What you promise customers should match what your business has actually configured.
Make it yours.
- Decide between valid access and accumulated balances.
- Specify benefits, states and responsible staff.
- Test active, suspended and expired credentials.
- Confirm plan and integrations before promising features.
